Grey Squirrel

I counted 15 Grey Squirrels this morning at the feeders! They are taking over. I am changing the name of our backyard to "The Squirrel Encounter". I guess they are fun. Maureen says I can't cook 'em up in a nice stew.

~sigh~

That's too bad. Spending a lot of time to beef them up, or is that squirrel meat them up? What is Squirrel meat called, I wonder?

Awe Craig, I'm glad you have squirrel problems rather than me. We have alot of squirrels around --but so far, none at the feeders (thank goodness). But--we do have chipmunks. Such cute little boooooogers. Yuk!

Don't know what you'd call squirrel meat or chipmunk meat---but I certainly don't want to try it.... Ha ha

Have a wonderful day and week. I'll post one more time in the morning--but then I'll be gone for about 9 days.

We always called the squirrel meat, "Squirrel." And we called the rabbit meat, "Rabbit." And I ate a lot of squirrels and the back leg meat is fabulous as is the back meat. On rabbits it is about the same but the back meat is best. I can't think of anything, except maybe chicken fried in lard, that would taste any better than fried squirrel. If times really get tough in this country I am thinking there will be a shortage of squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, cats, and dogs. And then will come the cows and horses and sheep and goats. Hard times.

Craig, I have a hickory tree in my backyard and oaks out front, so the squirrels love my yard. I used to put a large glass pie plate of water out on one of my deck tables for the birds...and the squirrels drank from it, too. I thought that was cute until I found where they had chewed a HUGE hole in the arm of one of the outdoor resin-wicker chairs! I was not impressed! :-( I'm not liking squirrels as much these days as I used to...but don't think I could eat 'em...yuck! LOL

I spent part of the afternoon watching a couple of squirrels run around our yard..up and down the trees. I just put up a new "squirrel proof" feeder, so I can go boating for a bit and still have food for the birds...squirrel shot off it just as if it were a ski jump. I'll try to get it on a short video and post it.

You are going to have to put one of those anti-squirrel things on you feeder Craig. :) They do tend to take over especially this time of year before all the other good stuff starts to shoot out. Thanks, but you are going to have your squirrel BBQ without me. :)

your squirrels are so neat - like little fluffy toys. our squirrels here have fluffy, tufted ears, though!

Happy birding

Squirrels, squirrels, everywhere squirrels! Persistent little devils!

We have lots of squirrels too and they drive our dogs nuts. They get on top of the lanai (screened) and look down at the dogs that can't possibly get to them, and they chatter away!

Yep, squirrel meat is squirrel meat, I never heard it called anything else. I ate a lot of them at one time, but now only photograph them, but Abe Lincoln is right, we may have to go back to eating it if times get hard enough. They can be frustrating when one is feeding birds.

It must be fun watching them if you are not hungry.

I understand. As a young married hunter I brought several home for my bride to cook. She said quote.."I refuse to cook, serve or eat skinned rats." End of story

Bro, did you ever eat them squirrel daddy would cook? Was you already gone from the house? Mama was working nights and daddy grilled some squirrel and rabbit. We had to spit the 8shot out as we chewed.
It was good!!!

We have problems with the squirrels aound our feeders too. We've found a mixture of silicone spray and Pam(for bar-b-que grills) seems to slow them down.
