Along came a spider...

I went out tonight to clean some oak leaves out of the pool and found this little fella crawling around on the water. Can you say camera practice? Be sure to click and enlarge to get a good up close look!

He is REALLY ugly when enlarged. I love the way the water is below him.

Did I tell you about the time I went swimming at night. Didn't have my glasses on and thought I was scooping a leaf out of the pool. It wasn't a leaf!! It was one of these with BABIES on her back. I screamed like a teenage girl. I learned my lesson. Don't go swimming at night in Florida!!

Thanks everyone, great story scooter...

I think, from research, that this is a Wolf Spider. Especially from Scot's story of his pool, they point out that they carry their babies on their backs. Even though I am sure this is true of many spiders, they also have the trait of walking on water.

After I went to bed I was wondering, Can this spider get himself out of the pool? I hope so.

Neat shot! Scary spider! His reflection reminds me of a snow flake!

You did great with the spider shots, Craig! We get those giant spiders that walk on water in our pull, too. My grandsons are petrified of them :-)
Funny how big his shadow is!

Thanks again everyone.

I was really trying to play around with the lighting on this. I had the pool light on, so the water was backlite, the outside light shining down, and the flash from different angles.... In other words I didn't know what the heck I was doing... lol.

Now THAT is great work. It ain't just a spider shot - the shadow in the first two frames emphasises the menace.

Great work, Spider-Man!
